April News!
Reading: The children are really enjoying learning
about their animal in their non-fiction book clubs! They are finishing up this week by finding
the answers to the 3 main questions that they wanted to explore. On Friday, the clubs will make posters to display
the information that they’ve learned. Next
we will learn about mental images and expanded vocabulary.
Math: We are working on our
geometry unit right now. Many of the
students did excellent on the pre-test for this unit! We will plan to take the actual unit test
next Monday or Tuesday. The boys and
girls are learning the names and characteristics of the 3D shapes and of
polygons. We constructed some shapes
using straws and twisty-ties the other day and will make some 3D shapes using
marshmallows and toothpicks later in the unit.
Writing: We are working on informational stories right
now. Each of the students chose a topic
that they are “experts” on. Some students
are writing about an animal, some about a sport, some about nature. We are using a graphic organizer and the boys
and girls have to think of at least 3 things they know about their topic. They children will be expanding on these
ideas to create “chapters” for their book.
Soccer FYI:
Our
next unit will focus more on money. We
are on a good pace to finish all of our math units despite all of the snow days
we’ve had this winter.
