November News!

Reading:  We will be starting a new activity this week.  All of the 2nd grade students will participate in an “intervention block”.  This will be a 30-minute word work activity time.  What makes this different is that your child may be working in a different 2nd grade classroom during this time.  The children were divided into groups based on a spelling inventory.  The children will work on word sorts and reading.

Our phonics this month will be r-controlled vowels (er, ir, ur), vowel teams for long o and plurals.

Comprehension skills include compare and contrast, author’s purpose and sequencing.

Math:  Our new math unit covers the following skills:  place value, adding coins, telling time and frames and arrows having 2 rules.  It is a short unit but full of good review and challenging activities.  Please remind your child to do his/her home link each evening.  This will give your family an idea of what was covered during our lesson that day.  Your child will also receive a “DOJO” point for completed home-links!
